MFC42.DLL INVALID PAGE FAULT WHEN LAUNCH THESKY

    ISSUE

After successfully installing and running, the following error message is now displayed when trying to launch TheSky:
“This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, please contact the program vendor.”
    A second message shows:
“SKY caused an invalid page fault in module MFC42.DLL@…”
    May also see:
“A device attached to the system is not functioning.”

    RESOLUTION

Closing TheSky v5.00.000 Print Preview through any means other than the (Close) button (e.g. the ( X ) button in title bar) results in a QuickTime message. Unless the user instructs QuickTime to continue recording (even though there really is nothing being recorded), then a registry entry becomes corrupted which will prevent TheSky from running successfully.

Follow these directions to correct the problem:

    1. If running, close TheSky.
    2. Open the Registry Editor (Start / Run, type REGEDIT, then select OK).
    3. Switch to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER window (listed under Window menu).
    4. Open the key list to Software/Software Bisque/TheSky.
    5. Delete the key named “WINDOW-Summary.”
    6. Exit the Registry Editor (your changes will automatically be saved).

You should now be able to run TheSky successfully.

Obtaining an update to TheSky v5.00.001, or later (available from the Download section of Software Bisque’s web site at http://www.bisque.com/thesky/download.htm), will prevent this from occurring again.
