“INVALID SERIAL NUMBER, THESKY BETA IS CLOSED”

    ISSUE

After installing TheSky v5, attempting to use menu commands results in a notice:

“Invalid serial number, TheSky Beta is closed.”

    TheSky then closes.

    RESOLUTION

    This may happen if:
    1. The user previously had a beta-test edition of TheSky v5 installed on the computer.
    -or-
    2. Some files remain from a previous version or aborted installation of TheSky.
    -or (and most commonly)-
    3. The user is installing TheSky into the root of a hard drive, rather than into a named folder.

Regardless of the cause, TheSky should be uninstalled (Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs), TheSky’s folder should be deleted (e.g. C:/Program Files/Software Bisque/TheSky), and TheSky v5 re-installed. If installing to a destination other than the default, be sure that a folder name is specified (e.g. “D:/TheSky”).

Note that a different serial number is not required.
