OBJECT SYMBOL METAFILES CANNOT BE DISPLAYED

    ISSUE

The Realstic.svp Sky View Preference file cannot display its .WMF metafiles. When using Chart Mode, no object symbols (aside from Sun, Moon and stars) are displayed. Under Windows 95, attempting to view a symbol under the View, Preferences dialog, or printing a chart displays error message:

“File Error – Windows cannot find (filename).WMF. Check the path and filename, and then try again.”

    RESOLUTION

The Realstic.svp preference file references .WMF metafiles which aren’t installed with TheSky, but do reside on the CD-ROM. These files can be copied to TheSky’s folder using this procedure:

    1. Start the Explorer, then select the drive which contains TheSky’s CD-ROM.
    2. Open the /Samples/Symbols/Realstic folder.
    3. From the contents list in the right pane, click on the first file, then press Shift+End to highlight all files in this folder.
    4. From the Edit menu, choose Copy (or press Ctrl+C).
    5. From the All Folders list in the left pane, select the drive on which TheSky is installed (e.g. C:).
    6. Open TheSky’s Symbols folder
    (e.g. /Program Files/Software Bisque/TheSky/symbols).
    7. With the right pane showing the contents of the Symbols folder, from the Edit menu choose Paste (or press Ctrl+V).
    8. Close the Explorer, and start TheSky (if not already running).

The referenced metafiles can now be used by TheSky. If the file Realstic.svp was copied into the Symbols folder, it may be deleted, however its presence will not affect TheSky’s operation.
