PANORAMIC HORIZON PHOTO ISN'T DISPLAYED

ISSUE

A panoramic photograph of the horizon does not display, or stopped being displayed, on the Sky Chart.

RESOLUTION

This can happen for a variety of reasons (e.g. centering the Sky Chart on an object or position that is below the horizon) but all are the result of at least one of the below-listed requirements not being met.

The display of a horizon photograph requires all of the following:

1. The Show Horizon option must be enabled on the Horizon tab of the Display > Horizon & Atmosphere Options window.

2. The Horizon Type option must be set to Photograph on the same tab as requirement 1.

3. A functional, currently accessible panoramic photograph must be selected on the same tab as requirement 1.

4. The Sky Chart must be framed (pointed and zoomed) such that the horizon falls within its boundaries.

5. At fields of view greater than 60°, a non-orthographic projection must be selected from the Display > Projections window.

6. The orientation of the Sky Chart must be set to Terrestrial Sphere (from the Display menu). Note that this automatically occurs if an Orientation > Look command, such as Look South, is used.

7. Graphics acceleration must be enabled. In TheSkyX version 10.5, this is done by setting the Graphics rendering mode option to either Automatic or Hardware Acceleration on the Advanced tab of the Edit > Preferences (Windows) or TheSkyX > Preferences (macOS) window. For earlier versions of TheSkyX, this is done by setting the OpenGL detection mode to either Automatic or OpenGL on the Advanced tab of the Tools > Preferences window.

8. A video card and driver must be used that support the graphics acceleration used by TheSkyX (it may be necessary to update the video driver).

To resolve the problem, check each of the above and correct any as necessary.
