PARAMOUNT FAILS CALIBRATION USING DIRECT GUIDE
ISSUE
My Paramount can be successfully calibrated and autoguided using camera relays. However, the mount fails to calibrate with the error message:
Error code 554 “Motion too small during +X move. Increase calibration time.”
RESOLUTION
CCDSoft or the TheSkyX Professional Edition Camera Add On's calibration settings must be modified when using DirectGuide.
That is, the “units” for calibration “time” when using DirectGuide are arcseconds (angular distance), and seconds of time.
Configuring CCDSoft to autoguide using DirectGuide:
-
Launch CCDSoft.
-
Click Camera > Autoguide.
-
Important: Click “Imager” or “Autoguider” to specify the settings of the detector that will be used during autoguiding. The imager and autoguider settings are independent, and must be set separately.
-
Click Settings.
-
From the Autoguide Settings dialog, on the Drive Settings tab, click Advanced.
-
Select “Direct Guide” from the “Autoguide Using” list.
-
In the X- and Y-Axis “Calibration Time”, “Backlash Compensation”, “Minimum Move” and “Maximum Move” options, specify values as arcseconds (approximately), not in units of time. For example, a value of 100 would move the mount roughly 100 arcseconds when using DirectGuide.
Configuring the Camera Add On to autoguide using DirectGuide:
-
Launch TheSkyX.
-
On the Autoguider tab, click the Setup button.
-
In the Autoguide Using pop-up menu, click DirectGuide.
In the X- and Y-Axis Calibration Distance, Backlash Compensation, Minimum Move” and Maximum Move, specify values as arcseconds (approximately), not in units of time. For example, a value of 100 would move the mount roughly 100 arcseconds when using DirectGuide.
Typical Direct Guide Settings for the Paramount are given below:
Calibration Time X = 100-200
Calibration Time Y = 100-200
Minimum Move = 0.01
Maximum Move = 1-10
Backlash X = 0
Backlash Y = 0If the SBIG AO is in use, be sure to increase the “Relay 'bump' size” under AO settings to say 1 or 2.
