CAN THESKY6 OPERATE A TELESCOPE IN ALTITUDE AND AZIMUTH ORIENTATION? OR IS EQUATORIAL MOUNTING REQUIRED FOR TELESCOPE CONTROL?

    ISSUE

I own a telescope that can be operated in either altitude/azimuth, or equatorial (polar-aligned) orientation. Can TheSky6 control my telescope in either orientation?

    RESOLUTION

TheSky6 can operate telescopes that use either altitude/azimuth or equatorial mounting. TheSky6 merely sends “go to” commands to the telescope, and the telescope’s control system is responsible for slewing the hardware to the correct location in the sky. Therefore, the telescope’s mounting is inconsequential for software-based telescope control.

    APPLIES TO

TheSky6 Serious Astronomer Edition, TheSky6 Professional Edition, All Celestron NexStar-compatible telescopes, all Meade LX200-compatible telescopes, Meade Autostar-compatible telescopes.
