HOW DO I CONFIGURE CCDSOFT TO INTEGRATE WITH THESKY6 PROFESSIONAL EDITION OR THESKYX PROFESSIONAL EDITION?

    ISSUE

Even though TheSky6 (or TheSkyX) Professional Edition is running, CCDSoft launches and utilizes TheSky5 during various integration operations like DirectGuide, Insert WCS, etc.

    RESOLUTION

    1. Install the latest release of CCDSoft from the Downloads page.
    2. From CCDSoft, click File | Preferences and check TheSky Version 6 option to integrate with TheSky6 or check TheSkyX option to integrate with TheSkyX.

    IMPORTANT NOTE:

User Account Control (UAC) in Windows Vista, Windows 7,  Windows 8 and later may prevent an application from accessing the Windows Registry (in this exmaple, CCDSoft's scripting interface must be “registered” with Windows, and this step is performed when CCDSoft is launched).  The resulting message is “Failed to update system registry”.  To allow CCDSoft, or any other Windows application, access to the Windows Registry, always run the application as an Administrator with elevated privileges (see below how).

UAC may also prevent TheSkyX Pro or TheSky6 Pro and CCDSoft from being “integrated” (for example, CCDSoft will not be able to get the telescope's current position from TheSkyX Pro).  The solution here is to run all applications as Administrator with elevated privileges.  This includes any third-party application that accesses TheSkyX, TheSky6 or CCDSoft's automation model.

To Run an Application as an Administrator with Elevated Privileges:

    1. Use Windows Explorer to locate the program's executable file (TheSkyX.exe for TheSkyX Pro, TheSky6.exe for TheSky6 Pro, and CCDSoft.exe for CCDSoft for Windows).  By default, executable files are installed to the C:/Program Files/Software Bisque folder on Windows 32-bit operating systems, or C:/Program Files (x86)/Software Bisque on 64-bit Windows operating systems.
    2. Right-click .exe, then click the Properties command.
    3. Turn on the Run This Program As An Administrator checkbox in the Privilege Level group on the Compatibility tab.
    4. Click OK.

The application will be run as an Administrator with elevated privileges when launched from this icon.

    Alternatively,

    • Applications can be run as an Administrator with elevated privileges (once) by right-clicking the application's icon, then clicking the Run As Administrator command
    • Permanently disabling UAC (not recommended) does not require running applications as an Administrator with elevated privileges.

Generally, TheSkyX need be run as an Administrator only once so that it can register its COM objects.

    APPLIES TO

CCDSoft Version 5, TheSky6 Professional Edition, TheSkyX Professional Edition
