ERROR DOWNLOADING COMET AND/OR MINOR PLANET ORBITAL ELEMENT DATA

ISSUE

I get an error message when attempting to download the latest comet or minor planet orbital element data by clicking TheSky’s Data | Comets and Minor Planets, Download From Web buttons.

RESOLUTION

TheSky is attempting to download on of the following text files from the web:

Comets:
http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/cfa/ps/Ephemerides/Comets/Soft06Cmt.txt

Distant Minor Planets:
http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/cfa/ps/Ephemerides/Distant/Soft06Distant.txt

Critical Minor Planets:
http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/cfa/ps/Ephemerides/CritList/Soft06CritList.txt

Unusual Minor Planets:
http://cfa-www.harvard.edu/cfa/ps/Ephemerides/Unusual/Soft06Unusual.txt

If you encounter an error message such as “Cannot Find Specified File,” then one or more of the following is true:

• Your browser’s security settings are preventing downloads. Modify the security settings to allow file downloads.

• There is a problem accessing the internet from your computer. Enter one of the above URLs to verify that you can view this file.

• Try getting the latest update for your web browser.
