CLICKING ON FAINT GALAXIES DOES NOT SHOW OBJECT INFORMATION
ISSUE
From Sky6, find and center NGC7340. Almost directly below 7340 (in Polar display mode), is a faint galaxy (RA/DC = 22h38m03s +34d23’01”). This galaxy is also just east (2′) of GSC2743:438.
Click on the galaxy, only “Cursor Position” information is displayed. I cannot get Sky6 to display the information on this galaxy, yet I assume it must be in the TheSky6’s database.
Also, center the galaxy. Zoom in using the “+” icon. At some zoom level (I can’t tell what level it’s at) the galaxy disappears.
Other galaxies exhibiting this behavior can be found at:
22:38:03 +34:23:01
22:37:04 +34:24:42
22:37:02 +34:20:14
RESOLUTION
TheSky6 displays photographs of many deep-space objects. These photographs may contain faint, uncataloged galaxies. Therefore, clicking on photograph of the photograph of the uncataloged galaxy will result in the “Cursor Information” being displayed in the Object Information dialog box.
To Verify:
1. Click View | Display Explorer.
2. Navigate to the “Image Manager” node.
3. Clear the “Non-stellar Objects” group option.
You’ll see that this faint, uncataloged galaxy is no longer present when the photograph of nearby NGC 7331 is turned off.
The object disappears at small fields of view because the photograph is automatically hidden to minimize distortion and pixellation at very narrow fields of view.
APPLIES TO
TheSky6, all Editions.
