CANNOT CREATE A NEW DOCUMENT IN OBSERVATORY

    ISSUE

When the New command is selected from Observatory’s File menu, no new document appears.

    RESOLUTION

If communications with the Observatory application or Orchestrate cannot be established, do the following test:

    1. Launch the Observatory application.

    2. From the Observatory menu, click Server Connections.

    3. In the Server Connections dialog box, mark the TheSky checkbox and clear the CCDSoft checkbox.

    4. Click OK.

    5. From the File menu, click New. Record the result.

    6. Repeat steps 3-5, only clear TheSky and mark the CCDSoft checkbox this time.

If the File New test is successful for TheSky, you should see a window that states:

    Offering Connections To:
    TheSky
    Telescope

If the File New test is successful for CCDSoft, you should see a window that states:

    Offering Connections To:
    CCDSoft
    Camera
    Filter Wheel

From the results of the above test, determine which application Observatory cannot establish communications with. Make sure that both TheSky and CCDSoft are installed on the computer and that each can be run stand-alone. TheSky must be able to successfully establish communications with the telescope and CCDSoft must be able to successfully establish communications with the CCD camera and filter wheel (if one is attached).
