BRIGHT STARS THAT SHOULDN’T BE

ISSUE

These stars have been reported to be far too bright, or nonexistent:

GSC 2709:2822, 21h05m54.8s +3459’28” (J2000), Mag. 2.5.
(DSS indicates should be mag. ~7.9)
GSC 6453:1224, 03h36m56.4s -2808’15” (J2000), Mag.~1.5.
(should be mag. 15, as IS inside ~35FOV!)
GSC 8661:2283, 13h12m57.5s -5949’22” (J2000), Mag. ~0.1.
(should be mag. 6.4)
GSC 4338:1916, 03h16m15.8s +7424’03” (J2000), Mag. 7.4.
(doesn’t appear in DSS, nor observations; 1 of 3 in equi-distant line)
GSC 4338:1887, 03h16m23.8s +7424’27” (J2000), Mag. 10.55.
(doesn’t appear in DSS; 2 of 3 in equi-distant line – Non-Stellar)
GSC 4338:1895, 03h16m08.4s +7423’42” (J2000), Mag. 14.79.
(doesn’t appear in DSS; 3 of 3 in equi-distant line – Non-Stellar)

RESOLUTION

As we learn of, and verify certain stellar magnitude errors, we sometimes correct these in subsequent CD-ROM editions. If the user does not have the most recent CD-ROM edition, updating may resolve some, or all of these problematic data.
