THESKY V4 DOES NOT START
ISSUE
Double clicking TheSky icon displays the splash screen, but TheSky does not start. With a lower resolution driver, TheSky’s menu appears but not the SkyDisplay.
RESOLUTION
This can be due to insufficient memory, or non-compatible library files.
MEMORY
TheSky verion 4 requires 8 MB (or more) of RAM. If the system has 8MB or more of RAM, then using a lower resolution video driver may free enough memory to start TheSky.
Under Windows 3.1/3.11, the user should verify that at least 600KB of conventional memory is free (use the MEM command at a DOS prompt while Windows is running). If not, exit Windows and run MEMMAKER, which attempts to automatically reconfigure memory optimally (this is a one-time procedure, it does not need to be run each time the computer is turned on).
LIBRARY FILES
If the problem does not seem to be memory-related, then it is probably due to non-compatible .DLL and/or other library files. This might be the case if a different 32-bit version of TheSky has been installed without properly uninstalling another version.
1. Uninstall TheSky.
2. Delete any of the following files found in the C:/Program Files/Common Files/System folder:
Accugnt5.dll, astrom.dll, DSS_DLL.dll, Instdrv.exe, IP.dll, MNCP32.dll, OrbProp.dll, OtherSS.dll, SATLIB.dll, Sbkmdd.sys, SS32.dll, st732.dif, ST732.dll, TeleAPI.dll, TTY32.dll.
3. Install TheSky (the above-listed files will be reinstalled).
